I have to say I'm hearing a very different Thom Hartmann these days. He seems to have flip-flopped from Edwards to Obama. What's eiry are his reasons. Like everyone else he's talking about the media surge and that of the polls as well--and this, the day before the primary. I suppose a political season affects us all in turn.
Well it's pretty easy to work the "media" and the "polls" when you've got hundreds of millions of corporate dollars behind you. It's not that these entities know the game; they are the game. Therefore, it's not exactly a difficult thing to rig.
What's so weird is that being aware of this sort of thing is what we've heard from Thom for the last couple years. And now this new bit. At first I was shocked; then I thought, "Well, what was the last two years about then?" Now, I'm just thinking, "Oh well, 'change', yes--just not what I wanted."
At some point he sort of compared youth of the 60's to youth of today. I'm sorry; the 60's kids were heavily influenced by things like independent then-obscure musical groups and such. Obama's youth is apparently influenced by things like Obama Girl who is produced by some outfit known as barelypolitical. The videos--and there are plenty of them--are big budget, lots of T and A, and pretty lame content. We're supposed to believe the production and promotion had absolutely no connection with Obama, right? I'm not buyin' it.
Then he talked about "angry Edwards". So, digging in and fighting for a cause--that's considered "angry" now? I mean, whatever--opinions change.
Maybe he's right about a savvy candidate not revealing his full plan until after he's elected. Either way, it will be the real rulers of the world who stamp their approval on any "real change", just the way it always has been throughout history. In the meantime, the only real change you can always bank on seeing, is that of the propaganda used in the game.

Exactly what I hate about politicians.
A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.

If you reveal your plan then you won't be elected, and therefore will not be a politician. But if he gets elected I hope he follows the bush play book, as in turnabout fair play, nail the republicans to the wall, then adopt a little Poe [Edgar Allan], and build that brick wall, snuffing the whines as the last bricks are placed with a mortar the dirt bags are familiar with. But thats only a hope, and everyone knows you can't vote for hope, he's even said it himself, he's a hope monger.

You Sir, sound more well-read than I. Anyway, I just wanted to tip my hat to my still-favorite talk show host; he's got what others can only consider--vision.
I wish I could put him in a time machine back to eighties-era NPR. Alas, National Public Radio today is most likely and sadly less "public" than this, right here. For now Air America belongs significantly to small business, (I think). But as it grows, who knows; will the brigade of corporate bulldozers wheel on in barely above idle, crushing little things in their path? Only time will tell...

THE thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as I best could, but when he ventured upon insult I vowed revenge. You, who so well know the nature of my soul, will not suppose, however, that gave utterance to a threat. At length I would be avenged; this was a point definitely, settled --but the very definitiveness with which it was resolved precluded the idea of risk. I must not only punish but punish with impunity. A wrong is unredressed when retribution overtakes its redresser. It is equally unredressed when the avenger fails to make himself felt as such to him who has done the wrong.
It must be understood that neither by word nor deed had I given Fortunato cause to doubt my good will. I continued, as was my wont, to smile in his face, and he did not perceive that my smile now was at the thought of his immolation.

No, no, no! Let me put it another way. I wish I could bring the 80's era NPR to this era. It's the current scene that is the problem! Evidently, you misunderstood me. (I hope I didn't offend you, either; I certainly didn't mean to. "Well-read" is a good thing.)

I took it as a compliment, and the revenge Mr. Poe was referring to was exactly the sentiment I feel toward the republicans, and why they should be chained behind the brick wall as it's being constructed. I don't get NPR, or PBS-- Moyers is still a good voice, McNeal Lehrer report, Front Page,.....I do catch explorer channel, National Geographic, History Channel. Kopel once said he listened to NPR while jogging around DC, they were playing the LBJ Whitehouse tapes at the time.
