I would be interested to know of a reliable organization which researches and helps develop alternative energy programs.
I am interested in funding and or promoting such an organization.

Hi Brad,

Are you interested in any particular form of alternative energy?

Electricity production or fuel?

Would you prefer an organization near to you?

Welcome Brad.
I am not sure if anyone here wants to help get a complete list for you on your worthwhile project.
But you could check out the thread: Technology solutions.
The first post also has a list of other threads that could help you.
And maybe if I have time tomorrow I may have a couple of directories of web sites that might get you headed in the right direction.

Brad,

This is a coalition of labor, environmental groups, businesses and individuals:

Apollo Alliance

Another really interesting site and writer:

Natural Capital Institute

This one I love:

Biomimicry Project

And the Bioneers home page:

Bioneers

And finally:

Co-op America

Brad, I am glad that some people were able to help you out. I went through a couple of hundred sites and have a list of my own to present, if you don't mind.

Obvious:
Environemental Science and Technology
Sierra Club
grist
Sea Shepherd

Wind, the prior post had some links also:
Industrial Wind Action Group
Native Energy
Information:
EPA Report on the Environment

Directories:
Eco Sites
The Environmental Directory
Notable sites:
The International Foundation for the Conservation of Natural Resources
Sustainable Business.com
Pacific Research Institute's Index of Leading Environmental Indicators has a good report worth reading.

And can't resist the House Committee on Resources (Debunking the Myths).

You may wish to undertake your own web-research into the purveyors of Biofuels, such as Biodiesel and Ethanol.

Willie Nelson comes to mind as one who has promoted Biodiesel...

SeQuential Biofuels is another name I hear a lot in my location...

Green Eye Automotive started recycling/reselling biodiesel powered vehicles here in Eugene...

Guaranteed that the Oregon Country Fair folks will have connections/links to all of the alternative energy/fuels sources, as well!

I have to wonder if Powerballtechnologies ever got off the ground...? They had an excellent, safe hydrogen cell design...

I don't know if this plays into it:

Recently in the news a biodiesel plant had a fire explosion here in New Plymouth, Idaho. The good news is it didn't affect the ethanol tanks but something on the production in an adjacent building.

The news touted the plant as the first/only commercial producing facility here in Idaho. If that is the case I'd love to make sure they continue (no lasting affects because of precautions just a bit of a fire.)

There was a news claim that fumes weren't harmful. The crop used is a corn crop, I don't know about GMO or not. (I would hope not.)

Anyway, New Plymouth is about 30 minutes from my home a very small town and we're planning on supporting the biodiesel effort of Blue Sky.
