EARTHJUSTICE E-BRIEF
JUNE 2006
In the past month Earthjustice has scored some great victories for our environment. In Appalachia, the DC office secured an unprecedented announcement from the Army Corps of Engineers. For the first time, the Corps has ordered four West Virginia coal mines to stop mountain top removal mining. While out on the West Coast, the Seattle office forced the Environmental Protection Agency to take action and protect farm workers by beginning the phase-out the pesticide azinphos-methyl (AZM), a highly toxic organophosphate and neurotoxin.
Bill Curtiss, Earthjustice's Deputy Director, inspired by a recent trip to southern Utah where he visited many of the special places that Earthjustice has worked to protect, looks back on the organization's 25 year commitment to the Intermountain West, and forward, as much of the Basin and Range is still at risk.
In a truly underhanded move, the Environmental Protection Agency announced it will not regulate the pumping of toxic phosphorous-laden water into Florida's Lake Okeechobee in order to preempt our litigation. Dear Thom: Speaking about the environment, did you see the film, by Al Gore, and what do you think this will do for Climate Change. Is enough awareness raised now, will there be earth shattering changes coming real soon? Maybe Tony Blair and Arnold, can they move enough sources for others to beleive the scientists. While our own government is re-writing the science, the poor polar bears are going to vanish. Well, hope you are having a pleasent summer, it's been very, very, hot. And the energy is beginning to take a real toll on human lives. Something better happen real soon. PEACE & BLESSINGS!
Linda, Herr Muller has more insight on this problem. One of the best things Hartmann has ever achieved is written The Prophets Way. Lots of discussion on the issues you allude to in that book.

Dear Chris: I have to say I haven't read that book either, but I have read the discussions all of you have had on that particular book. Thank you for your comments. When I mentioned about the Environment, some people are laughing, because they do not beleive it can be saved. However, that is why we are trying to educate the masses, about lots of issues, and Climate Change is one of them. Even there is question about direct action, how many of these have we had. Here is the crisis here, BG&E, bloodsuckers, Baltimore, Gas & Electric," have raised their rates, 72%. Plus, they are emeerged with Consteallation Energy, a parent company, and going to emerge, with Forida Power. And the poor don't have a chance in hell. Take Care! PEACE & BLESSINGS!
