On last nights show, Bill Moyers invited Professor Cone. Professor Cone teaches at Union Theological Seminary in New York City and is the author of several visionary books on Black Liberation Theology. A few years back, I recommended Hartmann invite Cone and Bell Hooks on his show. It went ignored, like every other true visionary. I've read all of Cone's books: he offers a unique perspective for understanding the juxtaposition of two historic symbols, i.e., the Cross and the Lynching Tree (Based on a speech he recently gave at Harvard Divinity School).

In retrospect, I can only affirm every condemnation I can think of about milk toast Hartmann, and his inside the beltway, white status quo message he diseminates so religiously.

It stands as a lesson why Moyers stands alone in journalism.

If Hartmann invited Hooks or Cone on his show, he would most likely loose all his white disciples. Big Grin

I listened for 20 minutes, but couldn't handle Cone's voice, his wild gesticulations and overstatements of observations that I didn't think were very profound.

Artlo, I tend to be interested in substance over superficiality. Hartmann is well spoken like most white men with an education. Yet, his views reflect a white history, a white economic, and a white status quo sentimentality.

I think you are asserting the point I made about Hartmann losing his apostles.

Here is a snipet of some of Cones views in his book A Black Theology of Liberation:

"[W]hiteness is the symbol of the Anti-christ."

2. "The goal of black theology is the destruction of everything white, so that blacks can be liberated from alien gods."

3. "The black experience is the feeling one has when attacking the enemy of black humanity by throwing a Molotov cocktail into a white-owned building and watching it go up in flames. We know, of course, that getting rid of evil takes something more than burning down buildings, but one must start somewhere."

4. "Black theology seeks to analyze the satanic nature of whiteness and by doing so prepare all nonwhites for revolutionary action."

5. "To be black is to be committed to destroying everything this country loves and adores."

You might be interested to know that this book was published in the heyday of the sixties and the various empowerment movements of the day. Altough, one might only appreciate it had you lived through it and understood the context of oppression.

To quote Lewis Black "They can't make this shit up." Where did you guys get this stuff from. Professor Cone is a theologian who uses the gospel to explain the situation of his people.
I heard no calls for violence or even reparation
We are the ones leaving "nooses" in locker rooms and offices not them
Heres is an actual excerpt from the discussion:

JAMES CONE: Thank you. I'm glad to be here.

BILL MOYERS: That old Billie Holiday number that-- that we played, Strange Fruit-"Southern trees bear strange fruit, blood on the leaves and blood at the root. Black bodies swinging in the southern breeze. Strange fruit hanging from the poplar tree." I mean, nobody sings that anymore. You don't hear it. But, yet, that is deep in our DNA, is it not?

JAMES CONE: Yes, it's deep. Because lynching is so deep. And that song is about lynching. It's about black bodies hanging on trees. And that's deep in the American experience. Particularly after the Civil War. But, it's connected with slavery too. Although, lynching didn't take place in slavery because black people were worth too much.

BILL MOYERS: I didn't know that.

JAMES CONE: So, they're-- oh, no-- no. They didn't lynch them during the time of slavery. It's after slavery. And it's in order to control the community. It's to put fear and terror in their hearts so that they would be forced to obey and stay out in the fields and work and not loiter. And to remember that whites controlled the world. Even though the south lost the war, they are still in control of their section of America.

BILL MOYERS: After the Civil War.

JAMES CONE: After the Civil War.

BILL MOYERS: I mean, it was--

JAMES CONE: That's when lynching started.

JAMES CONE: They wanted to remind black people that they were in charge and that whites controlled, for the same reasons why Romans-- crucified people in the first century.

BILL MOYERS: It worked, didn't it?

JAMES CONE: Yes, it worked.

BILL MOYERS: It worked.

JAMES CONE: It worked to a certain degree. It only worked in the sense that it reminded black people and white people that whites actually had political and social control and economic control. But, they didn't have control of their humanity. See, that's what religion is about. Religion is a search for meaning when you don't have it in this world. So, while they might have controlled the black people physically and politically and economically, they did not control their spirit. That's why the black churches are very powerful forces in the African American community and always has been. Because religion has been that one place where you have an imagination that no one can control. And so, as long as you know that you are a human being and nobody can take that away from you, then God is that reality in your life that enables you to know that.

BILL MOYERS: And even though you're living under the shadow of the lynching tree.

JAMES CONE: Even though you're living under the shadow of the lynching tree. Because religion is a spirit that is not defined by what people can do to your body. They can kill your body, but they can't kill your soul. We were always told that. There is a spirit deep in you that nobody can take away from you because it's a creation that God gave to you.

Now, if you know you have a humanity that nobody can take away from you, they may lock you up. They may lynch you. But, they don't win.

Nope.

I figure I owe you some attention after the letdown of my rejecting your advances via e-mail.
That last one was quite.....strange.
I've never had an internet admirer quite like you Chris. Sorry, I don't swing that way.
You can stop sending e-mails to me now.

Have you been on "To catch a predator" lately?

This is not directed to dumb ass but everyone else here. Now that he got that off his tiny pecs, what follows is a history lesson for everyone else. Slabmaster likes to go around this site making threats to people, I assume it stems from his vast insecurity deep inside the tiny little world he lives in: probably why he owns more guns and shoots tad poles and other things that don't shoot back. He asserted that he wanted to meet me to "settle" things like a man. Problem is that when I gave him my address the only thing he could do is send me several insulting emails without ever showing up to take care of busniess. Turns out the hero is nothing more than a little boy with a big mouth: all talk and no action. He has been telling people how he is going to kick my ass, but when given the opportunity to show me he put his tail between his legs and reverted back to pumping his chest. Maybe we can get him a little flight jacket like his hero, I guess that would make him an internet, war hero wannabe. Wink

Wow chris,

you have one twisted immagination.
Are you the weird stalker guy on the site that I keep hearing about, and I was lucky enough to find you?
Create some more facts for the audience. Your backwards rendition is almost as strange as the e-mails you send me.
I think it's kinda funny. Bizarre....but funny.

There are groups out there that could help you. The government might even pay for it. Worth a try I'd say.
'Till then, I'm sure you have goats to molest or whatever else you do with your time.
Please leave me out of your fantasies though.
It's getting kinda creepy.

Since you initiated blatent false statements and lies,

please show the class where I:

-Threatened anyone here on this board.
-Said I wanted to meet with you and settle something like a man.
-Told anyone that I was going to kick your ass.

You've got issues chris. I wish I could help you, but I'm not a psychiatrist.
If your going to post lies about me, at least have the balls to make up something that is as silly as your other statements.
My making a statement about Joe Biden seems to have tilted your pinball brain.
Push "reset" and start over as an adult.

You ought to work for the Bush Administration moron. I am surprised you had the nerve to show your face here again after I humiliated you. At least I had the good manners to take it off this site but you brought it back and made it public: it is fine with me if you want your nose rubbed in your own pile of shit again...

For the record what exactly did you intend to pick me up for? Intending to kiss my ass? You ought to change your meds ass hole.

Thanks a lot Doug, one day you tell me that we are closer than I would imagine and the next I'm 90 percent wrong. I don't know which is better.

It's a strange world when Ron is OK and Chris isn't. I never found Ronald interesting and so I usually just skipped over what he wrote. Therefore, I don't fully understand why he was banned and why he's so disliked. I think I've read every word that Chris posted. He's adjusted some of my thoughts on certain topics and earned my respect.

Sex change or farm animals?
How will I recognize your house anyways? Smell?

Don't let us down now. The visual of you gives me the dry heaves, but I kinda like that in an internet warrior.

Barbarian onward!!!
