Back in 1978 I was running an ad agency in Michigan and I was hired by
this German charity to help promote a concert tour around the United States to raise money for a program that was starting here. I was so impressed by the project, by the organization. Afterwards, we were in the Watergate Hotel in August of 1978 after the children had played at the UN and the Lincoln Center and Kennedy Center, the founder, Gottfried Müller and Louise and I were there. Justin, our son, had just been born, he was just a few weeks old, I'd gone home, we had a home birth. And we were sitting there and he turned to me and said, "why don't you sell your business and do something worthwhile with your life?" And I turned to Louise, and I said, "What do you think?" and she said, "Yeah, let's do it". And so we sold the business and moved to New Hampshire and eventually bought 136 acres of land and built three houses there and that program is still there and it's still running, the
New England Salem Children's Village.
And for 30 years, ever since then, I've worked with them. It's just a coincidence that it was in Germany. He's an extraordinary man. He's 94 years old. I spent 45 minutes with him the day before yesterday. And his final words to me were, "Are you fulfilling your destiny to bring peace to the world? Ja oder nein?" Yes or no? Are you doing the work, or not? And I said, "Yes, I am! Ja!" And he said, "good!" And then he said, "I am looking into eternity." 94. He said, "I am looking into the eternity beyond eternities, and it is beautiful."
