I'm not sure but today 1/30/08, the general vibe I was getting from the sources I choose, seemed to say that John Edwards surprised more than one person. At first it was puzzling to me as well. One thing however, was clear from the get-go; he was quick and decisive. Then as the day wore on, the weight of his move began to hit me in a way I had not anticipated.
I doubt the story of John Edwards suspending his presidential campaign had even been pressed, ink to paper as I logged off my email this afternoon. But as the internet "page" turned, there it was; a story on Edwards' decision which included Obama jumping on the stump criticising Hillary and visa versa. But what really caught my eye was an ad conveniently placed midway down, featuring the smiling face of 71 year old John McCain, with a caption reading something like "meet John McCain on 60 Minutes".
Well, I hate to say I told you so, Folks, but... Didn't I warn you about this? I will now state to you my fellow Democrats, (however many of you there are in this forum), that we are now being played. The Republicans have quietly selected their new czar. They are showing pictures of his old soul smiling face. They are painting him as the one who draws Independents and works with Democrats.
What a bunch of BS. He is a hawk; he's got nothing to do with the well being of this country, based on that alone. And yes, evidently he "works with" people alright. He certainly worked things out with Giuliani, didn't he--what does that tell you? But will the American public think about any of this? Nope, they'll just see his "kindly" old smiling face and say, "Ahh, you know, I think I'll vote for him; he kind of reminds me of Santa Claus."
Meanwhile, what do the Democrats have to offer? An ongoing ever embittering battle. Why has nothing this dramatic happened on the Republican side? And every day it goes on, it registers consciously or otherwise with the public. The public operates on an emotional level. Every next day that the Democrats have not selected their candidate is another vote for the Republicans. And I for one am probably just as guilty for buying into it as the next person.
But yes, as my video spot originally tried to state, I am still submitting to you that the same people who brought you George W., have been steadfastly framing the coming election. While the Democrats unfortunately will feud-on possibly past Super Tuesday, the Republicans have quietly selected their boy. And yes, I still contend that the same people who brought you George W., are bringing you Hillarama. And they will continue to bring you Hillarama just as long as you remain undecided.
John Edwards gave ALL of us a hard clue today in his manner alone: he was quick and decisive. Now it is time for us to act on his call. It is time to pick our Democratic candidate for the President of the United States. Any other time I'd say sure, let the democratic process take its course, but not now--not in this day and age, no way. There is no democratic process left on the other side; they've made up their minds. Therefore the other side could more easily take the advantage now.
So, go ahead Democrats. Make up your mind. Take your best shot and then stick with it! Enough with the debates. Stop fighting. You've had all the time in the world. Be nice but mainly, MAKE UP YOUR MIND! Once you do it, everything else will fall into place.
And by the way fellow Edwardians, our man will still be on the ballots this Super Tuesday. So, let's say you want to kill two birds with one stone; let's say you Edwardians want to vote for your candidate AND vote for Democracy. VOTE FOR JOHN EDWARDS ON SUPER TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 5TH!! You will do the country a great service, twofold. You will make one last stand for true democracy in 2008; but more importantly, you will ratchet-up the pressure to select a Democratic candidate.
It's time to go with your gut. Take yourself to task. Because either way, it is time to select our Democratic candidate for the President of the United States of America, 2008. And, it is time to do it RIGHT NOW!
