Well, I feel differently, but different strokes!
I used to enjoy Mike Malloy, just as I used to enjoy Randi Rhoades, but -- you know, I can only take so much bullying and -- I don't even enjoy the Majority Report very much. However, all three have been brilliant at times, but I just don't stick with them.
I love Thom, I love Ed Schultz, miss Franken terribly, and ruin my sleep trying to stay up for when Rachel Maddow comes on.
Seattle has Rachel Maddow during the day! I think it would be _smashing_ if KPOJ would include her in a waking-hour lineup, sometime.

patw: I enjoy Ed Schultz as a radio personality but his "mainstream thinkers" approach and continual analysis of the horse race of political candidacies rather than analysis of policy bespeaks an anti-intellectual way of running his show.
I'd say to Ed: so, you're a "mainstream thinker". What value is that other than to say you hold a popular opinion? (which does not necessarily connote leadership).

There are those that I like, and those that aren't for me. They ALL belong in the line-up. Schults seems to miss the point alot, but he's perfect for alot of red-staters. Randi makes my teeth hurt, but there's a huge audience for her. I also miss Al, but his kind of humor is exactly the same as mine, and I recognize that he's not for everybody. Sam was initially annoying, but he grew on me. AAR is no there just for me.
I'm not sure how I feel about the Carl Wolfson addition. He's competent and does the job fine, but I'm not sure what he adds to the line-up, other than to take some of the load off of Thom.
It's all good. It's all progressive.

Well, thanks Brent, and artlo.
I guess I like Ed Schultz very much, and I certainly don't think I'm a red-stater, I've considered myself a strong liberal for many years -- since Reagan's presidency. I don't think of myself as a peace activist, though -- don't take that to mean that I ever supported us going into Iraq.
As artlo says, however, the lineup is not there just for me!
However, I am sooo excited that Rachel Maddow has been moved to early evening hours !!!! I wish she was on during "drive time," so more people could hear her. She and Kent Jones are just _great_.

Six hours of Thom Hartmass is just fine with me. I guess Carl Wolfson is there to keep Thom from being too overloaded. That's good if it keeps Thom functional. Ed Schultz has changed recently. He seems to be acting like a cheap hooker, pandering a little too much to the likes of people who like pop culture stuff. Mike Malloy is creative and I appreciate that but he still depresses me too much. His substitute, Jon Elliot is really too much for me. Randi Ehodes is doing much better about not rapidly talking over people she doesn't agree with. Rachel Maddow is very good.

Carl is very funny
Also like how he describes the attempts at furthering "the capitalist empire"- like the way he phrases that

Thom does so much, from articles to books to celebrity appearances, so I think it would be very, very hard to maintain that AND keep abreast of the news, etc, and still do 6 hours of show.
I think it is perfect that he is here in Portland, but I think since he is so much in demand, I think he should focus on the nation-wide show! that's demanding enough just in itself!
I like Carl, and I think he's going to be a great addition, and hopefully that will free up more of Thom's time for all the other things he does.

I'm disappointed that Mike Malloy is back, (and pretty surprised) but I can easily avoid him especially in that time frame. I was a little disappointed that the Young Turks are on AAR too. I don't like the bullying and yelling at all, which is why I love the Hartmann show so much. I think people like the YT and Malloy reflect badly on liberals. I'd prefer AAR stuck with the smart people who don't go off screeching about something that personally bothers them. That's why I mainly stick to podcasts. I'm going to really miss Sam Seder too!

I remember when Ed Schultz was a liberal... it was only about four years ago! He's changed, and not for the better.

Well I'm glad Malloy is back. I usually don't listen to KPOJ now that I have XM.
Now I tune in to listen to Mike.

One of the three Young Turks -- and I don't know who, because I have listened them so seldom, they are or were on the very early AM here) but ONE of them seems to have a more serious bent, and someone I enjoyed listening to and became so annoyed when he was interrupted by one of the other Turks. As for other shows -- is Mark Riley still on? Now that I am not killing myself over lack of sleep, trying to stay awake to listen to Rachel Maddow (thank God for her new time slot!!!!!), I have since missed listening to Mark Riley. He's pretty cool. Pat

I used to listen to Thom and Heidi every morning and enjoyed the banter and local politics. I find the new format confusing and don't care for 3 people interaction. I listen to Randy when she is on a rant that I am totally tick off about. Please bring back just Heidi and Thom.

Well, having Thom on for 12 hours a day and bringing Franken back for 12 hours a day would suit me just fine. I don't think either one of them would care for it though. Sometimes I enjoy Randi's rants. I'm like Debbie...when I'm really ticked about something, she does my "cussing" for me in a way I just can't put into words. Retired Monk "Ideology is a disease"

I actually joined this forum specifically to vent my frustration regarding the Thom, Tammy & Carl morning show. I used to listen to all 3 hours but now I can't listen past the 1st. Thom never gets to finish his thoughts because Tammy and Carl interrupt him. And most of the show he is silent now. They really need to work on their synergy or I think Thom should just be a special guest for the last hour or something. Carl is a great host but he shouldn't have to compete with Thom. And I think Tammy is a nice person but often she is dead air. She made a good side kick for Thom, keeping him focused and on topic. But when she started getting equal time the show suffered a bit. And I really get annoyed with the 20 minutes of good mornings that starts the show every day, lol. Mostly cuz I'm just waking up probably, but I find myself thinking, "ok ok! get on with the show!" Thom should either be the main guy or he should pass the torch to Carl. This three host format is a mess. Sorry this is a bummer 1st post. There's just so much time being wasted on this show right now with confused banter and three people talking over eachother. It can be better!

I would vote for Carl & Heidi on the local show, followed by Thom; or, having Thom sit in on the last hour of the local show.
Carl's doing a great job- is funny & has appropriate outrage.
Note Carl did no analysis about the electoral ramifications of this Iraq funding vote, although he did respond to that type of analysis being made.
Seems to me Carl's brain is less infected by DC-"beltway" thinking.

I too, miss Thom terribly. I wrote KPOJ and promptly got a reply. Thom will join Carl and Heidi at 8am from now on because the national show is eating up his time.
I MISS Thom. Carl is okay, but Thom is so much better. When Thom is away on business, Carl could fill in, but bring Thom back!

I think that Radical Russ's time slot is unfair because he's sandwhiched between an irrelevant chit chat show and reruns. It's much easier for me to stay tuned to NPR all morning than switching over to Russ and then back to NPR. Also, Lionel is so entertaining. I wish that he had more hours.

The Satellite Sistes has actually grown on me and I enjoy their show. They're funny and I like Shiela's movie reviews. Rachel is terrific and I don't mind hearing her same show twice.
I think Russ does a great job, but if I were him, I'ld lose the "Radical Russ" moniker. It's a little too '60s for me.
Saturdays are a special treat for me. Ring of Fire is a favorite and the Mark Green show is top-of-the-line. I think I have a crush on Arianna Huffington. (It's very cute when Carl Wolfson does a parady on her accent).

Tried to listen to Stephanie Miller today - replacement for "Radical Russ". I had heard good things about her.
It...was...just...AWFUL! Too many unfunny sound clips, too much unfunny happy-banter, too much unfunny sexual innuendo, too many unfunny callers trying to be funny, TOO MUCH FRENETIC NOISE!
There were some little things wrong with Russ' show that didn't really bother me. His radio voice was a little bit wrong, his delivery was a little bit off, and some vernacular was a little off (like the "radical Russ moniker"), but his content was very good and he did stretch my thinking a little. I thought he did a good job.
I don't think this is going to be any kind of improvement.

Well, I had to turn it off because I had to leave, but -- I noticed it was very frenetic, and not altogether pleasant, in the first few minutes of the show -- but I am pretty sure I enjoyed her before, this might have just been an "off" day. I miss Radical Russ, though, very much. Carl -- I like him to, but -- Carl has a problem with breaks and segues. He'll run three entirely different things together and you'll say, "Huh?." If there's anything I'd like Carl to do, is to slow down a little, and, Let Heidi Speak! <g>.

I have had the "opportunity" to listen to Stephanie Miller some more recently, since I was visiting in Seattle and she seems to have the 6-9 slot, for heaven's sake. I just couldn't stand it, either. It wasn't information delivered in an "entertaining" fashion, it was bits and pieces of information interspersed with exactly what you say above, and an ungodly amount of sound effects. I think I counted 4 sound effects for where 1 would do, if it was even needed there. What a circus! It's too bad, because I think I heard her before when she was not like this. Pat

I listened for a while, too MALFUNCTION. I mostly agree, but allow me to point out your malfunctions (?): quote: Originally posted by MALFUNCTION: I actually joined this forum specifically to vent my frustration regarding the Thom, Tammy & Carl morning show.
