This probably belongs in some sort of national section, but since I viewed this strip in the Statesman Journal, I am putting it into the 620 KPOJ forum.
In the Friday, December 1st issue of the Statesman Journal, in the comic strip, "Prickly City" appearing as a faux comic on the comic pages, the artist has one of his "alternate" (manga) characters punching Nancy Pelosi in the face, twice.
This was just a culmination to "Prickly City's" artist's attempt to smear Pelosi, beginning before the election with several "be very afraid of Nancy Pelosi" panels in this so-called comic strip.
For some of you that are inclined to just blow this off, I don't think that a depiction of physical violence against an elected official, living or dead, has _ever_ been allowed in a United States newspaper. Allowing a comic to display such gratuitous violence, however "virtual," is a step 'way over the line, an instigation into fascism.
For those of you who are as concerned about this as I am, here are some phone #'s to call:
SJ Life Editor, Victor Panichkul, 503.399.6704* SJ President and Publisher, Sonja Sorensen Craig: 503.399.6689
As this is a Gannett newspaper, any calls to the Gannett owners would be ideal, too. I don't have their number.
thx Pat
