It's a Wonderful Life, eh?

Smiler

Is it the "dear old" building and loan, or the "good old" building and loan?

I missed this year's run of the classic that used to run 24/7 during the holidays, but I remember it mostly well.

Every time a bell rings, an angel gets his wings.

Ding. Ding.

Social experiments are fascinating, and evolving with the venues associated with Thom Hartmann has been fairly positive.

So, thanks Thom for keeping your doors open, and for nudging us into a cleaner faster ride in the new forum, with the fun little blog feature I've just tentatively dabbled in.

Smiler Kate

"It's A Wonderful Life, II"
Funny, how George worked hard, and almost through no fault of his own, his real estate dreams came true. In the 2007 sequel, the community seems to be working AGAINST George's getting their property!
I find it very curious, that land values fluctuate, just so wildly and they've achieved the determining force in the estimation of our 'economy's' hard, tough or better aggregate scarcity/plenty. The (absolute)number of families without a home has increased with more in poverty. It seems to indicate that somehow land values are being manipulated artificially. Although the practice of certified brokers 'netting' cash in land deals has been generally outlawed in states, could somehow an unregulated brokerage industry be departing from fair profits, at a corporate level, across the country?

As the peasants were driven off of the traditional smallholdings in Europe, land became a commodity. The great estates, often based upon wool,(in England), employed the locals to a degree, however most were driven to the cities to become part of the landless workforce.
Very rarely, as after a plague, labor might be scarce, and the price paid to labor might go up.
We are now in a worldwide "enclosurement", and the mass of humanity is only valuable to "society" insofar as they might be exploited and encouraged to consume.

But the building and loan had some symbolic value, at least in the movie. It symbolized community and the value of investment in a community. One for all and all for one kinda thing.

Our last day. Hmmm. Shall we use it visiting one another, or fossilizing our virtual pasts?

lol.

I've chosen fossilizing so far, and it's kind of a chore. Big Grin

I think I might be done now.

It sure has been a good experience, learning from all these people I've met at the old board.

Hope they find their way to the spiffy new one.
