Senate Republicans proposed a $100 fuel-cost rebate for millions of taxpayers. Democrats talked of a two-month suspension of the 18.4-cent per gallon federal gasoline tax.

Despite the jockeying for political advantage, economists and energy experts generally agreed that the government has few, if any, immediate powers to drive pump prices down for their $3-plus perch.

Now just who they think they're fooling? Neither solution addresses the real problem. But both solutions will have an adverse effect on the budget deficit.

Simon, I read this news in my local paper last night and I just about upchucked my tater tots.

When Senators suggest passing out $100 rebate checks from the treasury, you know there must be an election right around the corner. When I found out GOP Senators were behind this, I decided it really doesn't make a difference how the midterm elections go; there is really no difference between the current GOPs and Dems. None.

This is windfall vote pandering of the highest magnitude.

PeeWee, I think you do not realize the advantages the GOP plan is. By the lowering of taxes for the Dems this will only encourage consumption of gasoline. The GOP plan is a really cleaver way to cut consumption of gasoline while not hurting consumers. Those that reduce their consumption of gasoline get to pocket the rebate.

Ron,
Let's see SUV/Mini Van drivers who live in suburbs, are the greatest consumers of gasoline, wanna guess what party they normally affiliate with???

So does that mean that the Republicans ingenious idea, ultimately helps urban dwellers, who drive very little?

Step back from the Looking Glass...

"Yeehaw" is not a foreign policy!

What proof do you have of this? Is this another stereotyping a group? Does it really have anything to do with the proposal that the GOP party suggested?

What do you think? Why not explain who and what constituents would benefit from this plan?
