Patton believed in reincarnation. He thought he was at Carthage during the Roman Empire.

So, even if Ahmedinajad nukes us all into the next weorld, we'll get another chance at this mortal coil.

About the real George S. Patton III (although he was called "George Jr."):

His grandpa was born at Fredricksburg, VA and graduated VMI in 1852. He died the the Civil War.

His father changed his name to honor his dead grandpa (which is why there's a discrepancy in Patton's name). His father was the first mayor of San Marino, CA, a Wilsonian (racist) Dem, who believed in the right of the Aryan race to rule and was nostalgic for the Old South.

(there were a lot of these elitists in early San Marino and Pasadena, CA)

George III (Jr.) at one point took his daughter, Ellen, to visit the grave of Gen. Robert E. Lee, on which occasion he presented her with a Confederate battle flag and made some comment about how she, in her thinking, should be "unreconstructed".

So maybe Patton would've done just as well fighting for the Wermacht as much as for the U.S. Army?

(weird how they left all these true facts out of the movie, eh?)
