Strange how autocratic regimes feel the need to strengthen the police state/military industrial complex over every conceivable metrics. I nominate North Korea.
quote:
According to the U.S. Department of State, North Korea has the fourth-largest military in the world, at an estimated 1.21 million armed personnel, with about 20% of men ages 17-54 in the regular armed forces.[20] North Korea has the highest percentage of military personnel per capita of any nation in the world, with approximately 40 enlisted soldiers per 1,000 citizens. [21] Annual military spending is estimated as high as US$5 Billion (20% of GDP), compared with South Korea's $24 Billion (2.7% of GDP).[2] Military strategy is designed for insertion and sabotage behind enemy lines in wartime.[20]
