USS Lincoln Leaves For Deployment In Western Pacific

quote:
The ships are headed for the western Pacific for a six-month deployment. The first stop is at San Diego to pick up the carrier air wing.

Or are they heading for the Arabian Gulf?

***

quote:
Abraham Lincoln and the carrier battle group and airwing helped deliver the opening salvos and air strikes in Operation Iraqi Freedom. During its deployment, some 16,500 sorties were flown and 1.6 million pounds of ordnance used. The carrier returned home in May 2003, in the process receiving a visit from President George W. Bush before officially ending Lincoln's deployment by docking at San Diego.

quote:
On May 1, 2003 George W. Bush landed on the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, in a Lockheed S-3 Viking, where he gave a speech announcing the end of major combat operations in the War on Iraq. Clearly visible in the background was a banner stating "Mission Accomplished."

[and something for Ronald]
