I have mentioned before how we all are responsible for the actions of our government, whether or not we choose to to accept it.
To what degree will we accept responsibility?
That is for each of us to decide.
This guy...
was prepared to lose everything including his honor and freedom...
quote:
He expected to be labelled a coward and to face a court martial and imprisonment after making what "the most difficult decision of my life" last March.
He made the personal decision to accept responsibility for his government's actions and do the right thing at a terrible cost to himself.
But others made the decision to join him, from a most unlikely place...
The powers-that-be in the military who decided his fate chose not to brand him a coward and imprison him...quote:
Instead, he was discharged with a testimonial describing him as a "balanced, honest, loyal and determined individual who possesses the strength of character to have the courage of his convictions".
Although not much is said of the military officers who decided the terms of his discharge, I have to mark this as a turning point for the UK and their involvement in the war.
