polycarp - I think Americans should be outraged that the monument for Martin Luther King was outsourced to China. Not only the sculptor, but the granite or marble piece will be from China? What has been your response?

Do they have a better sculptor? Is their marble better than that found in italy?. I don't have enough information to respond to this. If the U.S. has a really talented black sculptor, it would be appropriate to give the job to him or her. I would like to see the best monument possible. King is one of my American heroes. That's the point. The U.S. must have a talented black sculptor. I cannot find a link but heard on talk radio that the group who decided was 90% black. It's a disgrace to give this important project to the country of China who is known for humanitarian abuses to their own people, such as forcing women to abort their children, eat fetal body parts, carves up their prisoners to sell body parts, hates American people and but loves American money.

And what does anything going on in China have to do with finding the best sculptor available? We can't do anything about what is going on in China. We can find the world's best sculptor if a black one can't be found that is up to the task. Maybe they are in China. Maybe not. I personally would prefer to give a black person the commission. If I were a black sculptor, it would be the pinnacle of my career, and I would put everything I could into it. Retired Monk

polycarp quote: How do we form a society that works for everyone?
You asked this question in the "Conflict Transformation - -" thread and I did not want to crash in. Don't you think the defense of life first, from conception to natural death, or for whom and what would we defending anything else? How can we work for the betterment of society if we terrorize the unborn? BTW, polycarp, I hope you can stay in this forum. I'm still trying to figure out why you took such a sharp turn to the left.

How can we create a better society when we terrorize the born? See my post "Does Foster Care Kill In Your State?" A society that works for everyone GG is just that. A society that works for everyone. I am neither left nor right GG. I'm for identifying problems and solving them within the context of our society...which by the way, barely functions. Solutions which are more in line with the Social Sciences are usually more appropritate. Based on science rather than opinion....and they are half-measures. Half-measures are the best that can be done in a social system that is barely adequate for our time. They do keep the society from collapsing upon itself more quickly than it otherwise would. Neither the left or right have solutions. Neither do I...and I keep looking for them. I look at international problems in the same way. What is actually going on? How did it come about? What are the underyling assumptions about them that prevent resolvements? Retired Monk "Ideologies are a disease"

How social has the sciences been to the defense of "life issues." When the black robed Supreme Court tyrants ruled that the UNborn could be exterminated, that mothers are the only segment of society that can decide whether another person has a right to live or die without concern for the father, our society has been on a slippery slope of abuses. We are witnessing a death culture mentality, a culture that believes one should die or has a 'right to die'. Don't you think the conscience formation of each person is the major key. Don't you think real progress of any society, nation, and human civilization is based upon what is correct behaviors not humanly contrived, such as the Ten Commandments - yes - natural, divine, moral law?

so you dont believe in someones right to die? and i see how you constantly pull up your pet project of abortion as a justification to end all unnessessary death. can u spell HYPOCRIT gg? because thats exactly what you are! you denounce abortion, yet advocate an illegal, unjust war (in your popes own words) that kills many many people though unnatural ways. you see gg, you cant have it one way and then turn around and say that war is good at the same time. you know why? because your statements contradict yourself. once again, can you spell HYPOCRIT gg?

That's pretty funny Mike, it's hypocrite. Aren't you supposed to be in Chicago?
A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.

Fisherman, I no longer reply to GG. She makes no sense, contradicts herself with every posting, and will never, never be able to see it. She quotes a religious document or teaching, and then immediately contradicts what she posted. Hopeless.

i certainly agree with you on that one polycarp. i have never seen anyone more stubborn in their views than perhaps bush himself (and thats not a compliment GG). being stubborn is ok IF you are right, but when you are wrong, being closeminded and stubborn only leads to "staying the course" and ultimate disaster. she certainly doesnt speak for normal moderate christians, but rather for a radical branch of the faith. she only harms the very religion she supposedly is trying to promote with her narrowminded views. all this time im trying to figure out what she really brings to this forum in terms of good qualities. as you might have guessed, i have not been able to figure any out yet. she seems to be almost conspiring against america, as if she wants america to fail and suffer. is this true GG?

I'm the tallest one in the room. I'll be with three ladies and a bald guy. I was wrong about the time. Our reservations are at 7:30 but we don't get to the airport until 6 so time will be tight.

I think life is a great thing Geeg. 'Survival of the fittest' is merely terminology from a human perception of a process we don't and may never fully understand but which grants us our very being. Life is superb.

Yikes??, KennyMac. Survival of the fittest lacks any reference to charity and love to prevail in order that human existence may continue. I think of the mothers who sacrifice to give life and the fathers who help to protect that life, for instance. I think of the disabled, the unfortunate victims of take over regimes, natural disasters - - - and now so many reach out to assist with their time, effort, and money. I recently watched the DVD, "The Last King of Scotland" and was quite shaken by it. Without God humanity knows no limits to cruelty to others. Hope your 'castle' respite was all that you desired it to be, KennyMac. GREAT news - I've been spending time with my son. He is having a very difficult time with the loss of his marriage. I fear he will gravitate back to the familiar. He needs to discover for himself what is going to help him, but as his mother I wish so much he would just get out of Maine, break the ties that bind him, and do some charitable work somewhere.

Yeah. It's a good movie. Disturbing but good. To me it brought back superb and not quite so superb memories of Uganda. An amazing country and amazing people where death is right there beside you. quote: GREAT news - I've been spending time with my son.
