Most Americans want a car that bypasses the electric company and runs on FREE ENERGY!
One that has a convenient EASILY REMOVABLE battery:
You drive home; take 20 seconds to wheel out (on a dolly) your depleted 50lb to 150lb battery from the car; wheel in the depleted battery into your large home photovoltaic panel; wheel into the car, a previously charged battery from your panel; drive 50 miles around town. Then repeat the above process
The car and the panel both would have convenient acceptor clamps that grab onto the battery terminals when wheeled in.
The whole process of exchanging the batteries takes only 20 seconds! That's less than the amount of time it takes to unroll and plug in a power cord to a recepticle, then unplug it and roll it back up into the car (with the built-in battery)and PAY THE POWER COMPANY! A large panel at home can gather much more charging power than a small panel mounted on the car.
The electric cars are already on the market! ALL of the lighter weight cars have a built-in battery pack of (6) lead-acid batteries with a total weight of 150lbs. Such a pack could be easily removed with a 4-wheel dolly. Unfortunately, there are no electric cars with convenient removable batteries. The built-in battery cars are not ready to drive in the morning because they have to sit in the sunlight for a long time to recharge.
The Gem electric car goes 35 miles on (6) 12v batteries (150lbs)
http://gemcar.com/models/default.asp?ID=358 They could make the car even lighter. They can easily increase the speed from 25 to 35mph (they can't now because the US federal gov't says any car must have airbags to go 35mph or more). A 150lb.battery could be easily removed with a 4 wheel dolly.
The point is: the sooner the electric car manufacturers start making cars with a removable battery, there will be more of them out on the roads, so when a better battery is intoduced, the cars will be ready to accept them without having to go to the tremendous expense of refitting.
I believe these companies know this,so just like in the "good ole" American planned obsolescense way- they are planning for the future.

WHERE"S THE ABOVE PACKAGE AT MY LOCAL AUTO SHOWROOM- DAMN IT !!!!!
NONE OF THIS IS ROCKET SCIENCE !!!!!
note: If you think the removable battery is preferable to the built-in battery cars now being made, you may wish to email your thoughts or copy and send this post to an electric car manufacturer!
