Dr. Emoto claims to have photographed beautiful water crystals that were sent love, and ugly ones that were sent hate.
I've also heard that his work has not been replicated, a requirement to be considered scientific.
On the other hand water is unique: hydrogen zeropoint energy is close to the energy of its chemical bonds, water clusters both in 5 and 6 molecule groups, its freezing and boiling points are far higher than expected, and it may even have a memory. The memory, in particular, seems like it would lead to the possibilities of beauty and ugliness.
Overall I think also of the numerous books on power of belief, on prayer, on energy healing, and so forth... I think the results will also be influenced by those performing the test and also the biases of them. Personally if there is even some truth to this then what harm can it do to incorporate the ideas - emotions play a large effect and while I am not sure if merely the unspoken words do as Emoto suggest I personally believe the spoken or emotional state would.

Thanks, Debra. It seems like there's still no definitve answer, but it's looking bad. Water's memory is close to being estabished, and that makes it interesting. Mind over matter has been shown in many trials, however, the comments on the hado in that link come from Dr. Emoto. Case ALMOST closed.

Take a group of people who are very faithful and believe strongly in the powers of PWEMTHIP (prayer, wishes, energies, meditations, thoughts, hopes, intentions peace) to say a small sized polluted lake that has an important role in the area and have them (not particular to any ideology system) focus on improving the water.
Then take another group who do not consider themselves strong believers to another lake (similar size and still important to that community).
Finally monitor a third lake in the same course of time where nothing is mentioned about the study and let normal occurances take place.
Take say 10 samples a week then a day before the one day prayer even and 10 samples the day and then week after and see if there are any differences.
The researchers should be comprised of those who believe it will work, don't think it will, and are skepitcal but not doubting the possiblity. Test not just for a change in the crystals but more specifically for toxin levels - of note it is best if it can be done during a week when the chance for rain or strong winds is not great.
I would not worry about controlling for every single variable or requiring that the lakes have the same toxins etc...if there are good enough results the first time then control more in later studies.

thank you all for interesting posts; i'll check the websites when time permits. i have no scientific info, but have some related anecdotes.
1) some silva mind control (now silva method) participants whom i know reported that the taste of "rotten-egg-smelling" water changed after they visualized/focused on its improvement.
2) when i use emoto's "thank you, i love you" to water before making coffee, the coffee tastes better. although i'd kept quiet about it, another person volunteered that it tasted better too; so that probably precludes it being a psychological effect peculiar to myself alone.

Debra, I believers and non-believers have plenty of subgroups within them.
For example: Some believers are that way because their parents are that way, Some became believers because their previous lifestyle was going to kill them Some converted in prison cells out of boredom or remorse Some saw something they considered miraculous Some see God as loving Some believe in a vengeful God, like Pat Roberson
"Christian" still could have been too broad a term to have had conclusive results, however, this new video renders that point moot.
