Gnarlie I wonder if you ever watched Alphaville (1965).

We had lost confidence in our culture. Everything had to be demolished. We would begin again after the "tabula rasa". At the Cabaret Voltaire we began by shocking common sense, public opinion, education, institutions, museums, good taste, in short, the whole prevailing order.

That would explain why I don't like art.

Gnarlie, I was wondering if you have seen the film: Divine Intervention (2002). Just for sensitive people it does have profanity at link.

It was a riot...

Excellent, I will rent the DVD some time this winter. BTW, that list of insults is translated directly from Arabic, it's the first thing you learn when you are there.

I agree those Arabs can be hilarious, once they give up on that accursed religion of theirs. Ironically, there are no Arab nations where such a movie could be made, because they are all such dictatorships. Arabs in Israel (even occupied Israel) have much better chance at being a successful modern movie producer.

But back on topic, I find it fascinating how the Jews are a predominantly left-brained race while the Arabs are a largely right-brained race. Put those two together and they can be extremely creative.

Yesterday I got trapped reading my favorite comic-book artist, a story about a doomed robot: http://comics.hawkstudios.net/ I was blown away by the final line in the story, it is very Arabesque in its existential angst:

"And Seven, as he runs his final cycles, wishes he could have been more than the child of such small gods." -- Mohammad Haque
