I've found references to supreme court decisions that have stated that you can't sign away your constitutional rights... but no reference.
Other ones stating that warehouse clubs can check your receipt, but not compare it to the contents of your cart.
And yet others stating that they can't even do that...
So, does anyone know for sure?
My understanding is that they can't search you or your belongings without your permission or a warrant. However they always insist on checking your receipt (My main complaint about that is they usually have a line of 20 or so people waiting and one checker) and comparing it to the contents of your cart. They claim that I agreed to this when I joined up, but they also have signs in their parking lot saying that they are not responsible for damage caused by their carts (again I believe that legally this is wrong)...
Does anyone know for sure one way or the other?
Thanks,
Z.
