I like the juvenile book series, A Series of Unfortunate Events.

Each one contains some threads that are carried through that are beyond plot and character.

One of the threads is analysis of what's "out" and what's "in." I remembered this aspect of the book series when my kiddo told me about a school mate who exasperated in the lunchroom, "oh em gee."

Huh?

He said, "it just not cool" ... "if you don't say it on IM."

OMG! ... the elements of "in" evolve.
