(IN ADDITION TO YOUR GUEST'S ASSERTION THAT THE REPUBLICANS ARE NOT STUPID) I'd like to pose another scenario for the Republican comeback: The capture of Osama Bin Laden. The Bush Administration is building a case that Al Queda is going to strike us here, but at the last minute (voila) Bin Laden is captured and the American people can really see that all the sacrifice of American soldiers has not been in vain after all. Indeed, the Bush administration has "saved" us from Chertoff's "gut" feeling in the "nick of time." There is plenty of reason to believe that Bin Laden was captured early on in Afghanistan, and has been held in some overseas prison until the time was right to drag him before the American people at the most opportune time. That is what I think is the genius of this Administration: they are playing chess with Congress and the American people, and have been thinking many moves ahead of us all along.
