SEATTLE — A Coast Guardsman died Sunday after he fell off a boat in Puget Sound near Vashon Island.

The guardsman was on board a boat on a training mission when something caused him to go overboard, and he was injured in the fall, Petty Officer Shawn Eggert said.

He was taken to the Fauntleroy ferry terminal in West Seattle and was taken to Harborview Medical Center, but was pronounced dead.

Further details were not immediately available.
