Mine are in Northern California. If you are in that area, let me know and I will tell you where some of the finest pizza on the planet is located. At least 5 places in that area I can think of have great pizza.
At the moment I recommend this place in Longwood, FL:
I like a crust that is chewy and flavorful (which means it had to rise in the fridge overnight) with crispy yeast bubbles, and lots of pepperoni and sausage and garlic.

Being the capitalist pig that I am. Dollar for Dollar, Papa Murphy's take and bake pizza.
On the days I want to treat myself for making ALOT of money that day. I have three favorite in Portland
Vincente's on Hawthorne Pizzicato on Burnside Hot Lips Downtown

We have a great pizza joint right around the corner from my house. It is Caruso's Pizza in Lancaster PA. Family owned by a guy who came over 20 years ago. Best pizza and cheese steaks anywhere, they even make their own bread.
Here in the North Shore of Boston we have this little Italian restaurant called "Sam and Joes" in the next town. It is a small place with a bar and is a real throw back to the late 50's/early 60's when it opened. I've gone there my entire life. There are no sizes to the pizza they are all approx. 12 inches and have a thin crust that is neither crispy nor soft and it is sprinkled with olive oil and has a tangy taste that I've never tasted any where else. They are truly the best I've ever had. Thanks, now I want one and I'm broke,

There are no good pizza joints in my area (that I know about.) This is because I want/need/desire/require/crave those old-fashioned pizzas with the super thin, super crispy crusts that you used to get in the '70s. It matters not to me that the market goes for these thick/squishy/bready/spongy crusts. I know what I want!

A buddy of mine owns Sorrento's in Banner Elk NC and they make as good a pizza as anyone. In Tampa, there is a restaurant called The Garden. Their pizza is great but you have to order it to go because the inside of the restaurant is 40 years old and smells like it.
A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.

Every time I eat at Izzy's I feel my arteries constricting and days of my life fading away.

Chicago has so many good pizza joints that it really boils to a matter of personal choice. Big Banjo is my favorite, as far as chains go for thin crust. Jake's Pizza for pan pizza.
As for my all time favorite there is a little pizzaria in Geneva Illinois called Orlando's. They used to be in Lombard then moved to Batavia and now I guess they are in Geneva (haven't been there since they were in Batavia).
Sawdust,
You unfortunately can't get pizza in Florida that compares with Chicago pizza. Nothing against the resturants, I think it has to do with the humidity or air pressure or some combination of the two, but I searched far and wide all over the state and never found what I consider to be a decent pizza. If you are ever in Chicago email me and I'll treat you to a superb pizza.

Are there good restauraunts and friendly folks in general? How about vancouver or seattle?
I'm wanting to move, and I am selling my house.
I am from portland, 4th gerneration
Crazy liberal like you - just another drop in the pond of liberism in portland.
There are great restaurants most of the people are great, unfortunate flood of pissy Californians screwing the place up. Houses are horribly expensive. I recently sold my house downtown for 300K. Hope you like rain. Portland is more quaint the Seattle, Seattle has massive sprawl. Portland is Land locked. If you hurry, maybe you can ride the new dumbass tram up a hill. Vancouver is nice.

Oregon is a blue state, and Portland is the core of that. Yeah, it's wet in Portland, but if you travel just 30 or forty mile to the south or southwest, or even west to the coast, you'ld find yourself in kind of a banana belt. I think it has something to do with Portland's location relative to the Columbia River gorge.
Besides, because of global warming, Oregon is the next California.

Global Warming is one reason I want to move slightly north from Florida!

my favorite is here in town where i live called Perky's Pizza and one particular kind i always HAVE to get. its called a BLT pizza
it has no sauce, instead uses mayonaise. toppings are lettice, tomatoe, and of course, bacon....it is soooo good!! they cook the bacon and dough, then put on the mayo, lettice, and tomatoe. its like a giant BLT sandwich, which i love!

Last time I was in Chicago I think I had one at the original Pizzaria Uno. Don't get me wrong, there isn't any such thing as bad pizza unless it's from the frozen food isle at the grocery store. I prefer New York style or wood oven pizza to deep dish Chicago style.
I'll take you up on the pizza however.

I sympathize with you. That is why I am no longer in Oregon. But all of the Willamette Valley and the Coastal communities get lots of days of grey and precipitation. But anything east of like Sisters is dry.
Loganthor, boo hoo. That is just enough for a down payment on a house(Santa Barbara). lol Of course if you want a 1 bedroom 1 bath house built in 1925 then you can put some of that $300,000 in the bank. (on sale for $669,000)
ftmyersfisherman, that just doesn't sound too appealing to me, but have enjoyed Taco Pizzas-I think Izzy's had that also.

I once walked up to the door of the original Pizzeria Uno in Chicago, but it was closed. I didn't have time to wait so I had to leave. I had been told it was MUCH better than any of the franchisees, alas, I could not verify.
At a different time, I had the deep dish at another of Chicago's famous places downtown, but at this time in the Am I can not recall the name. I was dissappointed.
A few nights ago on food network's show, Road tasted, they hilited a Chicago chain and the deep dish they videod looked much more interesting than my other earlier experience. The Road Tasted website has links to this Chicago landmark.
AS far as NY pizza, I do not like their cracker thin and crispy crusts. I visited NYC this July and went to Lombardi's, supposedly the first pizzeria in NYC and according to many pizza reviews, the best NYC pizza in NYC. Sorry, it was average only. Carmela's in Longwood was much, much better for several reasons.

There's Pizza Oasis and Oasis Pizza (don't ask me which is which) one is on Hawthorne and is OK the other is about W 22nd and Burnside and is good.
There is Stark Street Pizza (Other side of 205 from Mall 205), they've been going since 1965 so they are doing something right.
In Neskowin the restaurant does great pizza (Hawk Creek Cafe? it's the only one in Neskowin).
And there is a pizza place in Corvallis near the university that is really good.
As for the lie that it rains a lot in Portland... it doesn't. I looked it up and it was 25 in a list of 50 american cities (looks like one per state but I could be wrong...)
Seattle gets more rain annually than Portland.
