I was wondering why Thom's board has taken this change. Is he trying to earn money for some specific cause, or is it another reason entirely that he now has this semi-exclusive area? I see that he is putting a lot of research up for grabs that he or someone does for his show and that should be really nice stuff to access, the transcripts, etc included, and I'm certainly happy that I get in free. Perhaps it's really none of my business, if so, just don't worry about it. I'm simply curious.

We're doing the premium site so we can afford to pay for the site, to bring WRS audio to everybody, and to upgrade the site.

This is an unbelievably tacky question. Feel free to ignore it or send me an email telling me to mind my own business. What does a site like this cost to run annually?

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.

I don't know the answer for ThomHartmann.org but here are some rough figures based on prices I could chase down...

For a dedicated server you can pay varying amounts for varying products, but taking a rough price in the $100 - $200 ballpark would give you a starting point.

For a shared server you could pay from $10 - $100 a month depending on services.

So for a successful site you probably should expect to pay in the area of $100+ per month for the server. You would still need design work/programming/content.

This is based purely on prices I found online from a variety of vendors.
