Thank you, David Bender, for the tix to this WONDERFUL show!!! The following is a review of the show for those who couldn't make it...
First of all, let me say what a wonderful surprise it was to find that the seats for this show were pretty close to the stage (a cool surprise).
The boys started right at 8PM and played for about 3 1/2 hours, with a 20 or 30 minute break. Following is a list of the tunes played. Some titles may not be accurate, as some of the tunes weren't readily familiar to me, but these tunes will have an asterisk next to them, so that others might recognise them.
Flags of Freedom Flying Carry On Wooden Ships Long Time Gone (the words ring SO true today) Military Madness After the Garden Living With War The Restless Consumer Shock and Awe Almost Cut My Hair Immigration Man Families Deja Vu
(the break was here)
Helplessly Hoping Our House (Graham missed words in this, and Niel made them start all over again, proclaiming "Just cuz we're old, doesn't mean we can't do it right!") Only Love Can Break Your Heart
----Before beginning the next tune, Graham states that he was at the top of the Space Needle, noting that it was "the highest I'd been in a long time". As David approached a mic, looking like he had something wise to say, someone in the audience yelled "how about YOU, David?" After laughing at this, he stated "Ususally in this band, when someone screws up, it's me...but tonight...Mr. Perfect, the englishman (as Graham flips him the bird) is the one to screw up! I feel vindicated!!!"
Guenevere Milky Way Treetop Flier Roger and Out Southbound Train Old Man Trouble (Stephen had a rough time in the beginning of this tune, but sang it with ALL his heart!) Carry Me* Teach Your Children Southern Cross Find The Cost of Freedom
----At this time, the Stage goes dark, and a version of Jimi Hendrix's Star Spangled Banner is played. As the lights come up halfway thru, there is a 12 foot-or-so mic stand with an old-style mic on it, (much like the kind they used in the 50's) and a yellow ribbon tied to it placed on the right side of the stage. After the music, Neil steps to a mic and tells the audience "this is YOUR microphone!" And as the band breaks into the next tune, the words are displayed on screens so that the audience can sing along.
Let's Impeach The President For Lying ----As this tune is played and sung, about 2 or 3% of the audience stands and leaves (guess the cool-aid was makin'em need a restroom break)
For What It's Worth Chicago Ohio (4 Dead) Piece of My Mind* Keep On Rockin' In the Free World...fading into Taps
ENCORE...Woodstock (Back to the Garden)
All four of the boys have still got all the talent that they have been known for for so many years....Neil and Stephen still rock hard on their guitars, and they all still harmonize so well. It was a night that my wife and I know we will never forget, and I'm sure that TJean and her husband feel the same. TJean's husband took some photos with his cell phone (regular cameras were not allowed) and once he posts them I will post a link to them.
Thank you once again, David Bender, for the tix. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, and oh, yeah...I almost forgot.....THANK YOU!
SPEAK OUT AGAINST THE MADNESS! PEACE!
