Interesting links, Sue. As usual, Thom is right on the mark.

I noted the articles on agriculture and the means with which corporations are adding to the further impovrishment of many countries by patenting seed that have used locally for hundreds of years...forcing small farmers to purchase seed rather than retaining some from their own harvests.

This sort of thing should not be allowed. Patents on things that have developed naturally in nature? This is carrying intellectual property rights to a level of absurdity.

Dandelion greens are a food source. Can I obtain a patent on dandelion seed and sue everyone who has them growing in their lawn because they didn't purchase my patented seed? Why not? This sort of thing is being done with other wind-blown seed.

Hybrids will usually not reproduce true to form. This sort of thing can be protected as an intellectual property right, because it is. Natural occuring varieties are the "commons". This commons is being usurped.

Yes, what Monsanto and their ilk have been allowed to do is crazy.
