This is very important if we don't want people like Murdoch to own ALL THE MEDIA in this country.
Personally, I am not sure how it can get much worse, but then I think what if they get rid of ALL progressive talk radio, and the few alternative type of programs, than we really are NO different than Russia and its media (or perhaps China).
In fact, I suspect this website eventually might not exist.

Today, FCC Chairman Kevin Martin announced his proposal to allow media companies to combine broadcast stations and newspapers in cities across the country. The move flies in the face of overwhelming public opposition to weaking the cross-ownership rule, and clearly demonstrates that Martin planned the FCC's recent fly-by-night public hearings in DC and Seattle as window-dressing, rather than as actual public process.

What's the next move? The five-member FCC must now vote to approve or reject Martin's proposal. Anticipating Martin's move, several Senators have introduced a bipartisan bill which would put the brakes on the FCC's illegitimate and anti-democratic process. Stay tuned!

Well, perhaps it doesn't. Wink

In liberal Seattle, there are 3 conservative leaning talk radio stations and one liberal leaning station.

Why is that?

Liberals are busy listening to Free Bird on FM.

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.

1. It's market driven. Conservatives have more money to spend on superfluous things.

2. If you tell people something often enough, they tend to believe it. Takes 3 stations to get a lie across, only 1 progressive station to tell the truth.

1. Talk radio is "superfluous"?

2. Like "global warming"?

More than one right wing talk radio station in a market the size of Seattle is superfluous. Especially in a liberal market. Conservatives have more money to spend on superfluous things...like right wing talk. It's like having three newspapers in the same city that are identical in content except for their Masthead.

This serves the public interest, utilizing public airwaves, in what manner?
