In a comment on DailyKos someone asked about other countries. Does anyone know if corporate personhood exists in other countries? What rights to corporations have in other countries?
To me, the most serious problem with corporate personhood is the right corporations have to influence governance - do other countries have corporations, but keep them out of politics?
In Britain, the British citizens have gone the extra mile for what we sociologists have called 'formal organisations', economic groups gathered for making a profit. It is in America only, that We The People are struggling mightily to retain some important decision-making for the 'family bedroom'; the 'family' is technically labelled as a 'primary group', AND in my opinion is closer to a 'volunteer organisation', than to a 'for-profit' group, or 'corporate' one!

SueN: ...and just when U thought I'd crawled under something 'til Thom's back on the radio tomorrow...well I'm out and I've developed another thought about corporate entities in general. How do corporations change? And in 'response' to what physical realities?? My thought, it's got to do with our biological changes in CEO's or workers, or businesspeople!?! What happens to our bodies, as we behave within the rules of corporations' mission statements, supplier and employment contracts? (Are U OK??!!)

Sometimes companies respond to outside forces, but sometimes they manipulate them, for example using marketing, industrial espionage, etc.
If they were part of a healthy system, they would be fine, with the strong ones doing well and the weak ones folding, but we have a system with insufficient controls, so some of them get out of control like cancer.

Thank you! I never felt quite confident when I was working for a large U.S. grocery outfit. I used to think I was not cut out for any laboring. However, as 'the rules' have been primarily impressed upon me since childhood, I suppose I had always felt during my blue-collar employ, the impossible imposition of rules, upon 'America's rules!!
