No Mel. It is a matter of respect for others. If I have the problem then there are others here that have the problem.

Oh for god sake's Ron, get a wider computer screen, I am sure you can afford it. Please stick to giving economic advice and not the structure of one's post, of course now that I know it messes you up...

There are many things here that are done, and written, which I don't care for, you willing to stop out of respect for me?? If we are talking respect, than it needs to be recipricated, I am not into one-sided relationships, sorry don't operate in that manner.

The Thom Hartmann Program Forum & Chat Room Rules: The message boards and chat room are communities designated as safe places for people to come and discuss topics. While all variety of opinions are welcome here, people who make others feel unsafe in the chat room or forums in the following ways (or others, at the discretion of the owners and managers of the message boards and chat rooms) may be evicted and banned. 1. Abusive Posting: Ad Hominem attacks, death threats, racism, anti-Semitism, and trolling are all prohibited and can result in a ban. 2. Altering Quotations: Do not alter the wording or make it appear as though another member had said something which they did not. 3. Anti-Semitism/racism: This creates a hostile environment contrary to the purposes of community and a welcoming forum environment. 4. Flooding and Stomping in the Chat Room and on the Message Boards: Flooding the chat room and message boards with disagreeable posts that serve to dominate, intimidate and prevent others from posting or chatting diminish user's sense of a safe community. We reserve the right to remove any duplicates at our discretion, and to request that no more duplicates or similar messages are posted. 5. Banned User Procedure: A member who has been banned may email the Forum Moderator to apologize, to appeal the decision or to clarify. Once a Forum Moderator has taken action, He/She will decide to reinstate or not. 6. Contempt of Site: This is a private community, and people who show contempt for it should and can find a different community with which to interact. 7. Personal Information: Do not post personal telephone numbers, e-mail addresses, street addresses, or mailing addresses of anyone but yourself (and we recommend you don't post your own personal information) or by expressed permission of the person whose information you are posting. If the information is posted with the intent to harass or intimidate, flood their mailbox or solicit harassment in any way, then a ban will result. 8. Trolling: Trolling is to deliberately post derogatory or inflammatory comments in order to bait other guests into angrily responding. They may also focus on changing the subject or diluting the discussion with content-poor posts, or focus on only one topic and point of view whatever the discussion. The troll has no intention of taking part in discussions, save to try and ruin the quality of the community for others. Trolls may also adopt sock puppets - alternative identities - to further their aims. Trolls will be banned. 9. Spamming and advertising: Members are to use their accounts for personal, non-commercial interests and discussions. 10. Copying from the board: Content from this message board may not be posted, except by its original poster to this board, to other venues on the internet without the explicit written permission of the owners of this message board. CONTACTING MODERATORS You are encouraged to work out problems among yourselves wherever possible. You can contact moderators in privacy by clicking on the triangular "report this post" button to the right of the reply and edit buttons. Unfortunately we cannot reply the same way, but all reports are read, and action taken where necessary. The Message Boards are not responsible for screening content before it is posted, although an offensive language filter is installed on the system that will reject certain posts that may contain certain words deemed offensive or used most often in an offensive way. LEGAL DISCLAIMER: Users are legally responsible and liable for the content of their posts. Additionally, The Thom Hartmann Program, employees, and moderators will be held harmless against any and all claims resulting from the use of these boards and Chat. About Future Rule Revisions These rules may be amended in the future if necessary. It is your responsibility to check the rules section to stay informed of any changes. Don't see anything here about unintentionally changing the physical dimensions of the site, doubt I will banned for this. Seriously, very pathetic!

Really this is trolling, give me a break, reaching there a bit Log, I have seen more trolling behaviour from you than all the other regular posters combined, and still you manage to hang on. For one thing it was not done intentionally, I suspect I may have a different type of computer screen, and on my screen I see no difference, so if it did change the width, I am not aware of this. My POV on this forum, is for people to have sensible reasons to report one another (umm for example, being told to F*** Off), and not waste the moderators time on something like this, but hey if you want to.

Probably a little bias. Feel free to call me on it at any time day or night. quote: For one thing it was not done intentionally, I suspect I may have a different type of computer screen, and on my screen I see no difference, so if it did change the width, I am not aware of this.
I didn't mention anything about your ealier post, I just mention the giant post of Thoms rules smack dab in the middle of my post when a simple link would have made the same point. quote: My POV on this forum, is for people to have sensible reasons to report one another (umm for example, being told to F*** Off), and not waste the moderators time on something like this, but hey if you want to.
while I would agree, reporting people as a general rule is retarded. Since I know Ron, I sure thr report was "Can you fix this post" Since a moderator is the only other person able to fix a persons post when the person declines the asking.

Thanks Loganthor. I asked twice and no change in behavior or even trying to understand how the actions affect others. So I decided that yes maybe Sue will fix the page thread...

Which brings me to my thread question. In all my travels in cyberspace I have not found a more conducive place then Thoms to engage with opposing viewpoints. I have found Anarchist hiding behind a fortress, I just viewed Randi Rhodes and although there are more active member out of the 24 threads I viewed I was unable to find a single conservative opinion, she has massive rules (to which all of us violate here), plus probation status on new people. What right wing sites I have visited are no less forgiving. ET is nice but much too Euro centric for me to participate. Which brings me to my problem. Thom’s is slowly dieing on the vein. I can barely remember the last time I had a decent, involved discussion regarding any topic. But I am sure it was with Jason or Captain. I can sense the frustration mounting with the higher up’s and I see the wolf’s turning on their own. So for me to get what I want, I have a vested interest in seeing Thom’s forum survive. So what is the perfect forum, if it even exist. We obviously have a different view on how trolls were handled. I saw the paranoia, the finger pointing, the lists, the hunting, the scorn. Not sure if you if you recall, but when I read this post, I was reminded of the reason why Captain (who I miss) left this site. ______________________________________________________ Posted by Captain Patch (shortly before he left) SCREAM!!!!! Log, Do this ONE thing: Show ANY law that specifically says that a given named technique is torture. ONE, just one. From anywhere. "Waterboarding" is the name of a technique. The laws cite the stimuli and effects, not the nicknames. I am bloody well sick of your attempt at seizing apparent legal technicalities on an issue about basic humanity. I PRAY TO THAT GOD THAT I DO NOT KNOW THAT YOU EXPERIENCE THAT WHICH YOU WISH UPON OTHERS. You fricking well DESERVE to experience that kind of pain firsthand so you know what it is that you want to visit upon people that you do not know, that you know nothing about. It nauseates me that I had half my body turned into hamburger to defend people that think as you do. I sincerely hope you and yours get everything you want. It will bring on the End of Days that much faster. And with a planet playing host to millions of people just like you, the best gift we can give the Universe is our own self-destruction, before we escape the confines of this planet. You win. I can no longer stand your smug, demeaning, sneering attitudes towards your fellow human beings. I'm out of here -- before I become too much more contaminated. --------------------------------- "Life isn't worth living until you know what's worth dying for." Well Sue I took out the lines, and I am not going to delete the comment (although I guess if you do, there is nothing I can do to stop that??), because I think it is VERY relevent to this whole thread and a statement Log made about the Thom's site dying. He seems to be one of the main causes of this slow death, and I doubt very much I am alone in this sentiment.

I've been disracted, and haven't been able to interact as much as I normally do. My POV:
I am astonished that Slab is banned. I was reading the thread that you've referred to, and I dismissed his post as hyperbole. There's a lot of hyperbole on this board; it's curious that rightie posts seem to be scrutinized more than leftie posts. I see lots of offensive leftie posts, but frankly that's why I like to hang around here. It makes for interesting interaction. If you're too delicate for the exchange, maybe you should go to the Daily Kos or some other place where you can sing with the choir and bask in the comfortable embrace of synchronized groupthink.

Perfect. Any particular offensive remark your referring or the overall theme of my interaction. Did you read my response? quote: Thanks Mel,
Captian was very good, avid reader who could defend his opinion vigorously. But like so many people that I have seen fall from this site, (myself included) Captain got too personally involved in his word and felt he that what he was saying was adequate enough to sway an opposing opinion and he imploded. I took a 2 month rest shortly after I joined here because I imploded after a grueling, bloody beat down I received from Anti / Common tag team over some Bush scandal and my only point was “we do not know any details”. I literally got spanked, called every nasty name in the book.
I actually thought that last post was one of his best.
And I am still right regarding waterboarding.

Thanks Melissa. I've designed the forum to stretch with the content as much as possible, so that people can add wide charts, etc. if they really need to. But that does mean that if people do add wide fixed-width content like your lines, people have to keep scrolling from side to side to read messages on that page. The quote button (the 7th button from the left) is flexibe width, and so works much better. I wish people would stop standing around saying that the forum is dying, and get to work breathing some life into it. No one person is to blame, and finger pointing and wringing of hands is not going to achieve anything positive. If everyone put the same time and effort into starting new discussions or contributing positively to existing ones as they do into accusing or complaining about each other, the forum would be transformed, and I could focus on the few remaining who break the rules. As it is, there is a risk that it could be a self fulfilling prophecy and we'd have to start all over again, which I think would be a great pity. So I would ask people not to try and out-troll the trolls, or they will end up getting booted, possibly leaving the trolls behind, and likewise not to attack others for attacking others, and so on. How many of you will rise to the challenge of working towards a vision of a forum where people can talk to people of opposing views without there being blood on the floor?

Earlier Ren said: quote: I look at the word puzzles here in this environment, that's all there really is for me. I've taken the trouble to get to know a few people off the board, but for the most part, the less I think about what's going on with the person who generates the words the better.
A few weeks ago, you mentioned you were probably going to stop interacting with me because we don't seem to"connect". I can't disagree. I've been wondering why that is; then I spotted this admission. You and I are wired very differently, my friend. I've found that the more familiar I am with the person who generates the words, the better I can understand the point of view. I enjoy meeting others, especially those who are different from me. Maybe that's why I hang around here. I don't have too many expectation of my fellow posters, and I think you do. But then again, you have little concern for my opinion.

For goodness sakes, Sue. This is typing on the internet with strangers. Did Slab really hurt anyone? If you want offensive, how about using Thom's forums to sell tee shirts?

I didn’t say it to be mean. Nor to lay blame on people. The reality is, a majority of serious posters are gone, newbie’s are not providing significant material and the remaining people fight with each other, then deny their mere existence. Any efforts to address these issues are generally met with paranoia, mistrust and down right scorn. I remember 14 page raging discussion , long drawn out nuanced discussions on US government, People willing to try switching ideological position, etc etc… but is been a long while since anybody made the effort. This thread is that effort, I get excited when threads read the second and third pages. quote: How many of you will rise to the challenge of working towards a vision of a forum where people can talk to people of opposing views without there being blood on the floor?

PeeWee, quote: For goodness sakes, Sue. This is typing on the internet with strangers.
Did Slab really hurt anyone?
Interesting spin, but besides the point. If it's about 'hurting anybody', and typing on the internet with strangers not being able to do so, no rules were needed at all. However, this is not about that, it's about wanting to be able to follow through a decent discussion without some yahoo running into the room without knocking yelling "kill the darkies!!!" each chance he gets, and when asked to clarify yapping some self righteous crap and next running off giggling like a school girl. This is what I referred to in the past as "acting like an asshole". Has nothing to do with "debate", "discussion" or "opinion". Nobody needs that, and you know what? Not even Slabby does. All he did was act like a spoiled brat. When did you ever see him come up with a thought of his own? In my opinion, if you're not interested in debate, you shouldn't join a discussion forum.

You have to admit Miles that you worked pretty hard at that yourself for a while.
A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.
