Elsewhere on this site someone is discussing the intent of the law versus the text of the law. Here is a strange story of a man who sexually assaulted a bicycle in his motel room, and was convicted of a crime:
http://news.bbc.co.uk
Which reminds me of this quote by you-know-who:
quote:
The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible to live without breaking laws. -- Ayn Rand, "Atlas Shrugged"
This the new puritanism. People are so offended at a man masturbating on a bicycle that inanimate objects are now victims. Surely this is the worshipping of graven images, the glorification of objects over people. Rape victims must be envious at the rights of this bicycle.

I thought the UK was more progressive than that?

More importantly, how exactly does one have sex with a bicycle? The excitment eludes me.
Most men still have vivid memories of getting "nutted" as young children when slipping off the pedels and.....well....you know.

Maybe this was an act of payback to humiliate the bike.

actually, getting 'nutted' is a serious matter. my brother, when about 11, crashed into a light post and ended up getting nutted. im not sure what kind of injury he got, but i do know he had 20 stiches in the general nut area. i was with him and had to quickly ride 1 1/2 miles to the house to get help.

Anyone know of what Margaret Atwood said of door knobs? There is this poem called "Ageing Female Poet Sits on the Balcony" where she explains why a doorknob is better than a man.

Note that they actually encourage you to read Margaret Atwood in highschool.

I love this debate! But stepping aside the complexities-in an ethical matter such as this-if the 'predator' can demonstrate he has a serious problem, then the bicycle company may be forced to assume liability in the corrupting of his morals, somehow?
But then it might all boil down to the intellectual property rights of 'bicycle' . Who owns it? I have some solutions...
Is it the moral responsibility of the bicyclist to ride privately when he can, where-ever?
Is it the peddler's choice of a bicycle imply a committment to ride as often as he can? And, what is 'normal' here?
Who can say for sure that subjectively the hostel guest was 'doing sex', not just something creative?
Finally, are his intentions to difficult to imagine after all? And, in the sense of 'spur of the moment', could he really have thought of something, well, better to do???
